The Ducati Panigale is the company’s series of modern sport bikes. Named after the small manufacturing town of Borgo Panigale, the bikes in the Panigale family have traditionally utilized a monocoque frame design wherein the engine serves as a stressed member — in contrast to a more conventional trellis frame design as seen in the Monster series.

Popular models in the series include the Panigale V4 — the first mass-produced four-cylinder Ducati, which uses the Desmosedici Stradale V4 derived from the company’s MotoGP engine — and the V-twin Panigale V2, the successor to the popular 959. Whether you ride a two- or four-cylinder Panigale, you know you’re on one of the most thrilling, charismatic superbikes ever created.

Unfortunately, the insurance companies know the same thing, and Panigale owners are often hit with outrageous insurance rates — sometimes as expensive as the payments for the bike itself! The best way to find the coverage and rate that works for you is to shop around, and we can help. The Ducati Panigale: Models

899 Panigale (2013-2015): Introduced in 2013 to replace the 848, the 899 came with a liquid-cooled 90° “Superquadro” V-twin with 148 hp at 10,750 rpm — the first Superquadro engine in a middleweight Ducati. The bike also featured electronically-adjustable ABS, traction control, quickshifter, and a conventional two-sided swingarm.

959 Panigale (2016-2019):  Ducati unveiled the 959 in 2016 as the successor to the 899. It may be the entry-level bike of the Panigale family, but the 157-hp 90° V-twin was no slouch.

Panigale V2 (2020 onward): The successor to the 959, the V2’s engine has the same bore and stroke, though it has 5 additional horsepower and meets Euro 5 emissions standards. Says Ducati factory rider Pecco Bagnaia: “It is a fun to ride bike, very stable and delivering a direct feedback to its rider. Despite having a very strong and decisive character it allows you to go fast, in safety and without excessive effort.”

1199 Panigale (2012-2014): Marketed as the world’s most powerful production twin at its release, the 1199 liquid-cooled L-twin produced a staggering 195 horsepower at 10,750 rpm — good for a quarter-mile time of 9.91 seconds and a top speed of 177.6 mph. It was also one of the first production machines to feature electronically adjustable suspension, and Ducati would win the 2016-2017 British Superbike Championship with rider Shakey Byrne on a Panigale R.

1299 Panigale (2015-2018): The successor to the 1199, the 1299 boasted an extra 10 horsepower, making for a max output of 205 hp at 10,500 rpm. The bike retains the same 1437mm wheelbase as its predecessor, as well as Marzocchi forks and a Sachs rear shock absorber, but has a new IMU, racing ABS, wheelie control, and more. The S version features semi-active Öhlins Smart EC suspension.

Panigale V4 (2018 onward): In 2018, Ducati replaced the V-twin 1299 with the V4, featuring a new 211-hp Desmosedici Stradale derived from the company’s MotoGP engine. The bike is only slightly wider than the 1299, despite the extra two cylinders, and the engine operates in the opposite direction as the drive wheels, making the bike easier to turn. It has a more conventional aluminum perimeter frame versus the 1299.

Ducati Owner Discounts

Most insurers offer similar discounts. While none of these is huge on its own, coupling multiple discounts could lead to a significant reduction in your annual rate.

  • Desmo Owners Club:  Some insurers offer a discount if you are a member of a Desmo Owners Club.
  • Multi-Vehicle Discount: If you have multiple bikes or insure your bike with the same carrier as your car, you can save as much as 15%. Unfortunately, the best rates for your car may not be the best rate for your bike.
  • Motorcycle Safety Course:  Graduating from a weekend Motorcycle Safety Foundation (msf-usa.org) or other riding school can teach you life-saving skills and translate to a 15% discount. For many Panigale riders, the advanced riding courses may be more appropriate.
