It’s no secret that we love 2-strokes here at BikeBound. Well, this Brazilian 2-smoker, which began life as a Yamaha DT180, has to be one of the most interesting we have featured.

The Yamaha DT180 was a 176cc, air-cooled two-stroke enduro sold in Brazil from 1981 to 1997. The bike offered nearly 20 horsepower at a weigh of just 102 kg (224 pounds). The bike was famous for its low-maintenance durability, and many are still brapping around Brazil today.

Did we say it was air-cooled?  Because this one has been converted to liquid-cooled, using the top end of a liquid-cooled DT200, a pair of side radiators. The bike now boasts 235cc of “pure poison.” What’s more, the builder, 2-stroke enthusiast Robinson Cristian Santos, is a luthier — a maker of string instruments. He works under the name “Luthier Coruja,” and decided to use wood in the design of the bike, which he built for his wife, Denise Dalla Costa. Believe it or not, the seat is shaped from mahogany, wrapped in Brazilian Imbuia.

Below, we get the full story on the bike from Denise herself.
