For Sale: The XL883 “Harley Hater Special” Street Scrambler…

The Sportster is the most versatile of Harley-Davidson’s air-cooled machines. While the bike may be marketed as an entry-level cruiser, when you strip down the machine to the bare essentials, the bike makes a great platform for a V-twin street scrambler or tracker.

Enter the Pereira brothers of Rock Solid Motorcycles, based in Leiria, Portugal. After spending several years working in the UK, the pair moved back to their home country of Portugal to open their workshop. Brother Hugo says they built this 883 Sportster street scrambler to catch the attention of “who don’t appreciate carrying chrome and tassels and can’t image the possibilities behind these models.”

The duo has certainly accomplished that, building one of the burliest, most beautiful Sportster scramblers we’ve ever seen. Below, we get the full story on the build.

For Sale: The Sportster Street Scrambler is now for sale. Interested parties can contact Rock Solid Motorcycles for more information.

883 Sportster Scrambler: Builder Interview

• Please tell us a bit about yourself, your history with motorcycles, and your workshop.

Started riding motorcycles at 14, started my apprenticeship when I was 19 at a Yamaha dealer in the mid 90s up to the early 2000s. Always been around motorcycles, although not always professionally, but moved from Portugal to the UK in 2008 to start working as a custom bike builder.

In 2012, me and my brother opened a very small workshop in Leiria, Portugal called Rock Solid Motorcycles. From then on, it’s been 6 years of fun and games building all sorts and styles of bikes, always trying not to lead, but not to follow either.

• What was the design concept and what influenced the build?

The bike was built influenced by the first HD tracker I ever saw, back in 2009 at the Alexandra Palace, London Custom Bike Show where Shaw HD presented what was to me a revelation. Fell in love ever since.

Custom rear frame section with custom fender and longer jiffy stand. Hand made exhaust, electronic speedo, smaller indicators, led strip taillight, side mount illuminated number plate.

Peanut tank, Forty Eight seat.

Classified as a street scrambler.

  1. I like the white rims and rear hoop but a scrambler sportster with burly stilettos is far from unique.

    • Scott, if you have built a bike that’s truly unique, we would love to see it. You can submit your build here: [email protected]. Thanks!

This Sportster would turn heads anywhere you took it, in any town in America and far beyond. That’s more than good enough for us.

  2. What a nice scrambler if it was in my price range I would buy one
