The Ducati Scrambler is one of the most exciting roadsters of the modern era, an 803cc L-twin capable of knifing through urban gridlock, blasting down fire roads, and the hopping curb in front of the local cafe. While not built for heavy-duty off-road use, the bike is plenty capable of everyday hooliganism and adventure.
Unfortunately, insurance for Italian-made bikes is notoriously expensive. While a Scrambler certainly won’t cost as much to insure as one of the Ducati superbikes, it’s important to compare quotes from different companies. Fortunately, we can help.
Ducati Scrambler Insurance Rates
A wide range of factors impact your motorcycle insurance premiums, including not just the make/model of bike but also your state of residence, driving record, age, even your credit. It is very difficult to say what your rates will be, but here are a few examples from other Scrambler owners:
- Male, 38, Minnesota, State Farm: $288/year ($24/month)
- Male, 33, New Jersey, Progressive: $1200/year ($100/month)
- Male, 33, New Jersey, Allstate: $500/year ($42/month)
- Male, 30s, Texas, Progressive: $630/year ($52/month)
- Male, 33, California, full coverage: $1440/year ($120/month)
That said, it’s important to compare quotes from multiple companies. Says a senior member of the Ducati Scrambler Forum:
“The first thing I’ll say is that it’s nearly impossible to compare rates with other people in any meaningful way. There so are many factors such as age, zip code, multiple policies, driving record, credit rating, what limits and deductibles you choose, and the list goes on — it’s really just not realistic to compare individual rates. I would contact as many places as possible to compare rates for yourself.”

Keeping Your Rate Low
Once you’ve secured your rate, you want to keep it low and/or lower your premiums if possible. Given that Ducati Scrambler insurance can range between $25 to $150+ per month for full coverage, you will want to do everything possible to keep your costs down.
- If you are a student, most insurers offer a discount for maintaining a high GPA. This is known as a Good Student Discount. For most insurers that GPA is in excess of a 3.0, but you will have to ask the insurer you choose.
- Graduating from a weekend Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course will improve your riding skills and lower your premiums by a set percentage, sometimes as much as 15%!
- Traffic violations are guaranteed to raise your premiums. Maintaining a clean record will keep your rate low.
A Brief History of the Ducati Scrambler
The modern Ducati Scrambler was introduced in 2015, but the name and concept were a revival of the single-cylinder, air-cooled Scrambler line sold in the US from 1962 to 1974. These bikes were originally Ducati Diana street bikes converted for dirt track racing. Models included the Scrambler 125, Scrambler 250, Scrambler 350, and Scrambler 450.
A contributing factor to Ducati’s revival of the Scrambler line was possibly the popularity of custom scramblers being built in garages, shops, and sheds around the globe. While the Ducati Scrambler is not designed for heavy off-roading — except perhaps the Desert Sled model — the bike has plenty of dirt prowess for the odd off-tarmac adventure.
There are several variations of the bike: Icon, Classic, Full Throttle, Café Racer, Desert Sled, Sixty2 (399cc), and Scrambler 1100. Most versions are powered by a 67-hp, 803cc L-twin, good for 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and a quarter mile time of 12.46 seconds.
