Brat-Style Interceptor 650 from Sold Out Motorcycles…

The UK brand Sold Out Motorcycles (originally Down & Out Café Racers) has been a highly regarded name in the customs world for more than 20 years, turning out full-blown builds as well as a wide assortment of parts. Three years ago, we showcased the company’s “Mudslinger” Interceptor 650 scrambler, which debuted at the Bike Shed Moto Show.

More recently, Shaun of Sold Out Motorcycles stepped back from custom bikes, but he left the brand in the very capable hands of Dan Starmer of Fastec Racing. The two have known each other for years, with Fastec manufacturing a lot of Sold Out parts.

You might remember Dan and Fastec from the recent Bear 650 desert sled we featured — the giveaway bike for the 2026 Bike Shed Show

That wasn’t the only bike Dan and company had to unveil at the show. They’d also built this 2024 Interceptor 650 under the Sold Out Motorcycles moniker. The client, Gustav, had a previous INT650 totaled in an accident, and he wanted a new brat-style build on his replacement bike.

The chrome tank would be a focal piece of the entire project.

“Our customer originally wanted a completely blacked-out build but then saw a chrome tank and that completely changed his image of what he wanted. He wanted the chunky brat style with the wide front end and bigger tyres but with some chrome/polished parts incorporated.”

Besides the tank, the most obvious modification is the wheelset, consisting of 16-inch rims with BEC Black 500 rubber. Tthis chunkier front wheel necessitated Fastec Racing’s wide front end kit, which consists of a new steering stem, yokes, risers, and fat bars.

The rear end was cut down and replaced with the company’s rear loop kit, new mudguard, and tail tidy, and the exhaust is a Long Shot system with new cones.

The Sold Out team relocated the ignition, mounted a new speedo / bar end indicators / headlight brackets, and rewired the bike for Motone switchgear.

• Please tell us a bit about yourself, your history with motorcycles, and your workshop.

My name’s Dan Starmer and I took on Sold Out Motorcycles from Shaun (originally Down & Out Café Racers) when he decided to step back from custom bikes. I had known Shaun for a few years and had been manufacturing a lot of the build parts through my other business Fastec Racing, so Shaun gave me first options on continuing the brand.

I have always been involved with bikes in someway since I was a kid and have a love for the classics, especially the old Kawasakis and Suzukis. We have a small team behind Sold Out and we all work together well.

• What’s the make, model, and year of the donor bike?

• Why was this bike built?

Our customer approached us after seeing a couple of our previous builds and wanted the brat look. He had an Interceptor previously but it had been written off in an accident so wanted to do a fresh build.

• What was the design concept and what influenced the build?

Our customer originally wanted a completely blacked-out build but then saw a chrome tank and that completely changed his image of what he wanted. He wanted the chunky brat style with the wide front end and bigger tyres but with some chrome/polished parts incorporated.

• What custom work was done to the bike?

The front end was replaced with the Fastec Racing wide front end kit, incorporating new yokes, stem, risers, and fat bars. We relocated the ignition and mounted a new speedo, bar end indicators, and headlight brackets. New chrome tank was fitted and both wheels were replaced with 16” rims with BEC Black 500 tyres.

The bike was re-wired for new switchgear from Motone and we replaced the starter button to latch relay. The exhaust was replaced with our Long Shot exhaust with new cones.

The rear end was cut to include our rear loop kit, new mudguard, and tail tidy kit.

• Any idea of horsepower, weight, and/or performance numbers?

As standard as no changes to engine but the weight should be less.

• Is there anyone you’d like to thank?

Gustav – the customer, for giving us the opportunity to bring to life his dream.
