The Honda CB1000R is the present-day king of Honda’s legendary CB Series — a 998cc “modern retro” sport-naked bike featuring a CBR1000RR superbike engine tuned for better low-end torque and midrange power. Since 2018, Honda has called the styling of the bike Neo Sports Café, saying of the concept:
“The Neo Sports Café appeals to the mature rider with its pursuit of the fundamental joy and beauty of riding — looks and riding pleasure.”
CB1000R Insurance Rates
It’s difficult to compare rates between riders, as there are just so many variables involved: rider age, riding experience, driving record, zip code, elected coverage, and so much more. Fort this reason, it’s nearly impossible to estimate what you’ll be charged without requesting a quote or quotes from various insurers. That said, we’ve collected some real-world rates from actual CB1000R owners to give you some idea of what you can expect:
- Male, 37, Ohio, Full Coverage, Rider: $900 / year (Quoted $1300-2000 by other companies.)
- Male, 43, North Carolina, Full Coverage, Progressive: $405 / year
- Male, 44, Pennsylvania, Full Coverage, State Farm: $520 / year
- Male, 47, Ohio, Full Coverage, Rider: $400 / year
- Male, 47, Ohio, Full Coverage, Geico: $1650 / year (Quoted up to $4700 / year!)
- Male, 60, Full Coverage, Progressive: $1200 / year
As you can see, the rates vary wildly, even for riders within the same state and age range — moreover, even for the very same rider, from one company to the next! This may be because some insurers classify the CB1000R as a supersport, since it has the same engine as the CBR1000RR, while others categorize the bike as a sport standard or similar. Two riders saved more than $1000 per year by shopping around or switching companies!
All of this only reaffirms the fact that you need to request quotes from multiple insurers to get the best policy at the best price. Fortunately, we can help. Enter your zip code to start researching and comparing policies and rates from powersports insurers in your area.

Honda CB1000R History
In 2007, Honda unveiled the CB1000R began as the successor to the CB900F Hornet. Featuring a detuned CBR1000RR engine, single-sided swingarm, and “factory streetfighter” styling, the new bike was largely lauded in the press. Said MCN of the bike:
“The Honda CB1000R is a top quality bit of kit in every respect.”
However, the bike was destined to be reborn in 2018, when Honda applied their new Neo Sports Café aesthetic to the machine. Inspired by the cafe racers of yesteryear, the redesigned CB1000R caused quite a gush in the motoring media. Said Top Speed of the bike:
“Subtle refinements give the NSC a new look that takes inspiration from the past without becoming enslaved to it, and the result is fresh, modern and appropriately aggressive.”
And the changes weren’t only cosmetic. The received a mono-backbone skeleton, shaving total weight to a shade under 470 pounds soaking wet, and the engine was tweaked to provide some 145 horsepower and 76 pound-feet of torque, delivering to the tarmac via a six-speed transmission, slipper clutch, and chain final drive.
Recommended: Full Coverage
In most states of the US, only a minimum amount of liability coverage is necessary to register and ride your bike legally on the road. This minimum coverage is sometimes known as “Basic” or “Liability-only” — and it is, of course, the cheapest option available.
That said, we highly recommend that you opt for full coverage, which translates to comprehensive, collision, and possibly uninsured motorist and/or medical. These coverages protect you and your CB in the event of an accident, mishap, or theft — whereas liability only covers your legal liability for damages done to another person or property.
