Handbuilt Show 2018: Two-Strokes

The 2018 Handbuilt Motorcycle Show, which took place during Austin’s MotoGP weekend last month, proved to be the biggest and best yet. Hosted by Revival Cycles and BMW Motorrad USA, the Handbuilt Show aims at reviving the culture of physical craftsmanship and the beauty formed by human hands.

For 2018, the show moved from the Fair Market in East Austin to the larger Austin American Statesman right downtown. With three times the space, the show was able to host 150 hand-built motorcycles and more than 30,000 fans. Below, we list some of our two-strokes from the show — one of the hottest genres at this year’s show.

Can-Am TNT 250 by PJ Grakauskas and Chicago Jerry, aka Chi Jer’s Vintage Bike Works.

1967 Hodaka Ace 100 by traveling field biologist Chris Tope of Utopeia Moto Company, who lives and builds out of a 10×12′ space in his 44′ hauler! We ran full feature of this build here.

Suzuki GT380 by Pete Chase of Cafe Cycles, whose workshop has been open for more than a decade. We’re planning to feature this one on the blog soon!

Honda CR500 “Street Lethal” by Mark Miller (@nojoke2stroke), who builds some badass 2-smokers. We featured his RD400 street tracker last year and look forward to featuring this wild 500cc street weapon soon.

1972 Kawasaki Bighorn 350 by Jeff Tarver of @fiftytwocycles, whose father bought the bike new in 1972! Nearly half a century later, Jeff dug the bike up out of the yard and set about re-creating the bike for his old man. We featured the full story on this two-stroke street tracker here.

Yamaha RZ350 “Lab Rat” by Daniel Swinney of @Swinndustries, who wanted to create a modern-day version of the last and most sophisticated street-legal two-stroke sold in the United States. The result is this staggering RZ350 restomod, which we recently featured here on the blog.
