A 250-powered XL125 Restomod from 1008 Moto Garage…
In 1982, Honda replaced the beloved XL125S with the XL125R — a similar dual-sport machine but with Pro-Link single-shock rear suspension, 12-volt electrics, and new styling. These 125cc air-cooled SOHC Hondas have gained something of a cult following over the years. Cycle World was impressed with the XL125 from the beginning, and our buddy Greg Gilson of Small CC Savage has raced his XL125 in the FIA-sanctioned Rallye du Maroc, Baja 1000, and numerous motocross races.
“Without question the XL125 is one of the few bikes sold today that can take the abuse of both on and off-road riding and ask for more without even breathing hard.” –Cycle World
This ’88 XL125R restomod comes from our new friend Erol Toledo of Manila’s 1008 Moto Garage, who began building custom bikes in 2019. Today, he’s the owner/builder behind his own workshop, and he also creates videos for the Vinduro PH community.

“What arrived was a worn and weathered machine, brought back to life piece by piece with patience and vision.” -1008 Moto Garage

“Vintage rolling chassis equipped with modern technology (digital speedometer, dual LED headlights, disc brake front end, and 250cc engine with electric starter).” -Erol

“Built with balance between restoration and innovation, this XL125R proves that true restomod culture is about respecting the past while engineering for the future.” -1008 Moto Garage
We look forward to showcasing more of the bikes that roll out of this Manila-based garage. Below is a full interview with Erol about the build. The outdoor film shots come courtesy of @s.n.t.l.m.o.
Honda XL125 Restomod: Builder Interview
• Please tell us a bit about yourself, your history with motorcycles, and your workshop.
I’m Erol Toledo from Manila, Philippines. I started building custom bikes before pandemic (2019), and my custom shop’s name is 1008 Moto Garage, based in Manila.
• What’s the make, model, and year of the donor bike?
Honda XL125R, 1988 model.
• Why was this bike built?
Bought the bike from Facebook Marketplace to become my personal project and enduro bike.
• What was the design concept and what influenced the build?
Vintage rolling chassis equipped with modern technology (digital speedometer, dual LED headlights, disc brake front end, and 250cc engine with electric starter).
• What custom work was done to the bike?
The Baja headlights, custom engine mounts for new engine, and the modifications listed above.
• Does the bike have a nickname?
“Red.”
• Any idea of horsepower, weight, and/or performance numbers?
18.8 horsepower (12.6kW) and 17.2 N • m of torque and 110kg (dry weight).
• Can you tell us what it’s like to ride this bike?
It’s great. You can go faster on/off road because of the larger engine and 6-speed transmission.
• Was there anything done during this build that you are particularly proud of?
The Baja headlight! That’s my favorite and signature piece when it comes to this custom.
• Is there anyone you’d like to thank?
My fiancé, for moral support and motivation to restore it. I love you so much @isdatyoujules.

Great, fun build. Nice work!
Brilliant job.
Love it 👏👏👏👏👏
How much does it cost
I have a 2025 crf150 l will a 250cc engine fit on this bike with existing mounts.
Not likely. That’s a much different model than this one, which rolled out of the factory nearly 40 years ago! And Erol still had to manufacture new motor mounts. What would work best for you is a big-bore kit installed by a good shop. Google “CRF150 big bore kits” or similar and you’ll find kits to take your engine to 200+ cc 👍
How can I get it in Uganda? and how much?
Great job I am also seeking more power.
Maganda po!
I love it
Nice bike , need more information about them
