In 2014, Harley-Davidson launched the Street series — their first all-new motorcycles in over a decade. The series includes the Street 750 (XG750) and Street 500 (XG500), both powered by versions of the Motor Company’s 60° liquid-cooled V-twin Revolution X engine. The Street 750 makes 53 horsepower and nearly as much torque, while the higher-output Street Rod boasts 68 horsepower — enough to compete with sport naked motorcycles from the Japanese marques.

While the Street 750 is priced below the 883 Sportster and Harley Big Twins, there’s still insurance costs to consider. According to a survey from Value Penguin, the average cost to insure a 2019 XG750 is $677 per year, or about $56 per month. While this compares well with smaller displacement cruisers like the Honda Rebel 500 and Yamaha V-Star 250, in reality, rates vary widely from rider to rider, state to state, and company to company. It’s crucial to compare rates to make sure you get the best coverage at the best price.

We’re fond of saying that it’s difficult, even counterproductive at times, to compare rates between different riders of varying ages and locations. Says one member of the HDStreetForums:

“It’s hard nowadays to compare insurance quotes. There are too many variables that are different between two different people’s quotes on the same bike; age, location, years riding, MSF Course, accidents, credit score and so on.”

That said, we surveyed a few Street 750 owners to give you some idea of what to expect.

  • Male, 41, New Jersey, Full Coverage, Rider: $254 / year
  • Male, 45, Oregon, Full Coverage, State Farm: $212 / year
  • Male, 50s, Iowa, Full Coverage, Geico: $300 / year
  • Male, 55, Wisconsin, Full Coverage, Progressive: $329 / year
  • Male, 55, Colorado, Full Coverage, State Farm: $238 / year
  • Male, 60, Wisconsin, Full Coverage, Foremost: $516 / year

Many of these riders reported saving significant amounts on their annual premiums when they switched companies:

“I’m in NorCal and State Farm quoted me $410 every 6 months ($68 / month) which I still thought was high, so I got a quote from Allstate. They dropped it to $268 / 6 months ($47 / month). That’s full coverage…”

As you can see, it’s imperative to get quotes from various companies to get the best rate possible. Fortunately, we can help.

Harley Street 750: Brief History

Harley Street 750 Insurance
Street Rod 750

Harley-Davidson announced their new Street series in 2013 — their first new lightweight motorcycles since 1974! Both the Street 750 (XG750) and Street 500 (XG500) boast a liquid-cooled, SOHC 60° V-twin engine known as the Revolution. The bikes old in the US are produced out of Harley’s Kansas City plant, while those sold outside of North America are built in India.

The Street 500 has largely taken the place of the Buell Blast as an all-purpose entry-level learner’s bike, while the Street 750 and its sportier version, the Street Rod 750, are more performance-oriented, offering 50-70 horsepower in stock trim. The bikes are geared toward the urban environment, with modern performance and highly attractive price tags, and they lend themselves toward customization. MCN concludes:

“With its minimal café racer styling, the Street is a blank canvas for customisation. Ultimately, it’s everything Harley said it would be; it’s affordable, handles well and is surprisingly agile.”

Given the resurgent popularity of flat track racing and the competition from Indian, Harley has also introduced the XG750R:  a competition-only flat tracker based around the Street 750 engine — Harley’s first all-new flat tracker in over 40 years!

Harley XG750 Insurance:  Recommendations

Nearly every state in the union requires that you carry a certain amount of liability coverage. While a liability-only policy may be the most affordable coverage available, it only covers the damage done if you’re at fault in an accident.  It doesn’t actually cover your bike.  We highly recommend full coverage, which is comprised of these coverages:

  • Collision coverage protects your bike in an accident. It may or may not include uninsured/under-insured coverage. If it doesn’t, it’s a good idea to considering adding this coverage.
  • Comprehensive coverage covers damage from fire, wind, water, theft, vandalism, and “acts of God.

In order to keep your rates low, make sure to tell your insurer if you’ve graduated from an MSF course, if you’re a member of the HOG (Harley Owners’ Group), or if you’re a student and maintain a high GPA. You might want to ask them what other discounts they offer.
