It seems like so many of our favorite builders are former racers or race car builders. There is a certain racer’s mentality, when every last component — every nut and bolt — must be as durable and lightweight as possible, and form truly follows function.
Enter Adrián Campos of Bolt Motor Co., based in Valencia, Spain. Adrián spent several years as a professional race driver, competing in such series as the European F3 Championship and Indy Lights. Now he works for a racing team called Campos Racing, which has a quite a big workshop with all the necessary tools for building some badass machines. Adrián caught the bike-building bug about two years ago:
“I bought a Sanglas 400y two years ago to try to make a café racer out of it, but the end was very difficult. Then I meet Giancarlo, a professional mechanic, and he finished it, due to the nice results we had two new orders, and since then we didn’t stop. Working in a professional workshop such as Campos Racing headquarters is always easier with great results.”
Obviously so, as we are simply in love with this 1983 BMW R45 scrambler. Says Adrián:
“The success of any customization, be it a scrambler, a bobber or a coffee racer, lies in knowing which pieces to change, which to maintain, and which to fix. Taking into account what the customer wanted, we felt it was imperative to bet on larger wheels, a more modern seat and a more striking tank. On the other hand, it would have been quite sacrilegious not to use the headlight and the tires, as it would be like ending the personality of this BMW R45.”
One of our favorite aspects of this build is the color scheme and paint. Says Adrián:
“Another big change we made with this bike was the color. Always taking into account the personal tastes of the customer, we think that the earth colors match more with the new aesthetics of the BMW and the result could not be better. After two months of work, we managed to get the full potential of this precious bike that had been a little old-fashioned to become the motorcycle of someone’s dreams.”
