Simon Dabadie of Dab Design is quickly establishing himself as an innovator and iconoclast in the world of custom motorcycles. With a background in the emerging industries of 3D Printing and 3D software publishing, he’s done work for big guns like Roland Sands Design and Deus Ex Machina. He says:
“With all these emerging technologies, I set myself the challenge of customizing motorcycles in a totally antagonistic way to the old school spirit, integrating new technologies into the creative process. This is how Dab Design was born. The desire to create exclusive motorcycles in a very specific way.”
In 2017, Simon introduced a series of custom motorcycles to large acclaim, including the “LM-0” NX650 tracker and the “LM-5” CR500 supermoto — both of which incorporated cutting-edge materials and techniques, like flax fiber and 3-D printing. Now Simon is back with an exciting new project: The Enhanced Racer Kit for BMW R nineT.
BMW introduced the BMW R nineT as a “blank canvas for customizing” — a retro roadster designed for easy customization. Simon has designed the ER Kit as a bolt-on cafe racer kit for the R nineT, sure to produce an exclusive, rare, and head-turning custom with basic hand tools. Simon is currently taking pre-orders for the kit through his Indiegogo campaign, in order to raise funds for the manufacturing costs.

BMW R nineT Cafe Racer Kit: In the Builder’s Words
After building a series of custom motorcycles in 2017, Dab Design has designed its first custom motorcycle kit for all BMW R nineT owners: the Enhanced Racer kit. The ER kit drastically changes the design of the bike without modifying anything on the factory chassis in order to retain reliability, performance and safety.
No grinding, no welding, no long waits — the kit is for any rider who wants to customize the R nineT in their garage with basic tools.
Design Process
We completely 3D-scanned the BMW R nineT to record all the 3D data and dimensions. Once the motorcycle was virtualized, all of our components were carefully designed and simulated in 3D and then sent to our manufacturer in France.
For riders who want to carry a passenger occasionally, the rear shell can still be removed and replaced by the BMW passenger seat.

As a custom motorcycle company, we are aware that customizing a motorcycle is a really tough work. You are starting with a basic motorcycle that you have to transform into a one-of-a-kind machine. That means a lot of time-consuming manufacturing steps (welding, rewiring, bodywork, metal shaping, …). We want to make customization accessible to as many people as possible through innovative custom parts. We want to empower the enthusiast to build their own custom bike and the personal satisfaction that comes with it.
What do I need to install the ER kit?
- A 2014 or later model BMW R nineT 1200. The ER kit can also be mounted on the BMW R nineT Pure and Racer, only the front fender needs to be adapted.
- Common tools (sockets, screwdrivers, and such)
- Some basic wiring skills — the front headlight require rewiring the lenticular optic and the LED strip.
- The desire to own a truly unique ride
The ER Kit is available in BMW color themes, with other colors available on demand.
Front Fairing
Maintained by its metal structure mounted on the factory chassis, the front fairing incorporates the new lighting system: a dual position lenticular optics coupled with a led bar acting as a position light.
Front mudguard/Fork cover
Our front fender comes with an ultra neat design which has two functions: fender and fork cover.
Tail
The new rear shell and side probes that change drastically from what was the rear of your R nineT. You can also remove it occasionally and mount the passenger seat if you want to carry someone with you.
Radiator probes
Your radiator will be protected with 2 side probes participating in the racing aspect of the ER kit.
