Transformed Hypermotard from Brazil’s Benta Handmade…
When the Ducati Hypermotard 1100 debuted in 2006, it was a motorcycle quite unlike anything the world had seen in production form — a supersized supermoto packing a 1078cc 90-bhp twin-spark L-twin. Legendary designer Pierre Terblanche, known for his bold and often polarizing designs, had pitched idea to the Bologna bigwigs in 2005.
“An extreme streetfighter — street performance in a new aesthetic package…”
Terblanche designed the 2005 showbike, which debuted in Milan that fall, to be production-ready. When consumers and the motoring press lauded the concept, the project was greenlighted, and soon anyone with enough cash or credit could own the biggest, baddest supermotard ever produced from their local Ducati showroom.
Fast forward nearly 20 years, however, and the scintillating style of the original blood-red Hypermotard has cooled a bit, and we’re beginning to see the bike transformed in custom workshops around the world. Earlier this month, we featured a Hypermotard 796 race bike from South Korea’s Crazy Garage, and today we’re thrilled to present this custom Hypermotard 1100 from Benta Handmade in São Paulo, Brazil.
Anyone who follows the custom bike scene on social media has seen the builds of this Brazilian workshop. They’re one of the most prolific shops in the world, with more than 150 projects under their belts, including collaborations with everyone from BMW Motorrad to Deus Ex Machina.
According to Benta Handmade’s Luís Chiarotto, the client commissioned them to transform the bike aesthetically while retaining the factory handling and performance.
“On this bike, we tried to go for a more robotic look, but clean and minimalist at the same time.
The team painted the frame and many of the other components, 3D-printed the headlight fascia, reworked the subframe, created a custom alcantara seat, welded up a bespoke exhaust, mounted a low front fender, swapped out all the lights / mirrors / accessories, and more.
Weighing ~150 pounds more than a single-cylinder 450 supermoto, the Hypermotard was always more of a high-performance naked bike or streetfighter than a true supermotard, and this transformation speaks to the underlying nature of the bike — an aggressive urban fighter perfect for dicing traffic and sending the front wheel into orbit. The bike now looks more like the race bikes that compete in the MotoAmerica’s Super Hooligan National Championship: 750+ cc, air- or water-cooled, 2-cylinder, no bodywork, stock frame, high-handlebar motorcycles.
Luís delivered the bike to the client before getting a full round of photographs, but we decided to show you what images we have of the bike, along with a walkaround video. Keep an eye out for more customs coming from our new friends in São Paulo!
