Roman Juriš reports from Glemseck 2026…
This year marked the 19th annual edition of the Glemseck 101, the largest outdoor motorcycle festival in Europe. Some 40,000 motorcycle enthusiasts congregate the first weekend of September at the Solitude racetrack (Solituderennen) in Leonberg, Germany. It’s a full-tilt weekend of sprint racing and custom bikes…paired with beers, bratwursts, live music, friends, and moto-fellowship.
This year, our man on the ground was once again Roman Juriš. Last year, Roman rode the 1000 kilometers from his home in Slovakia on his custom Suzuki SV650. This year, he brought his new Jawa 350 two-stroke custom (feature coming soon). Here’s a brief report of the weekend from the man himself…
Event Report: Roman Juriš
This year I didn’t go on the bike, but I loaded a freshly finished Jawa 350 into the van to experience the reactions of the visitors. All three were positive. Something similar to the Yamaha XS400.
It rained from Friday to Saturday, but during Saturday the weather was nice and sunny. I left Glemseck on Sunday morning, so I don’t know the exact weather, but I assume it was nice.
There were traditionally a lot of people, but I had the feeling that they paid less attention to “regular custom bikes”. I don’t just apply this to my motorcycle, where only a few people stopped by to see that it was not a regular motorcycle. The same thing happened with other motorcycles that would have deserved attention for their design and modifications. It seems that more superficiality is emerging.
I was most pleased with Christian’s Silver Arrow and the conversation with him. In my opinion, the most beautiful motorcycle of the weekend and a nice guy.
The Suzuki TL and the UNO frame were great. I have traditionally been pleased with boutique motorcycles from the eighties with special frames and fairings.
If I inherited such a motorcycle, I would make it a candy restomod and not a sprint racing motorcycle (as some have done).
Royal Enfield is making a huge offensive on the German market. With patient work, they are making their motorcycles a cult. They had a large stand and many unique builds.
Other major manufacturers were also represented, BMW and Yamaha were missing. The Chinese Benda is pushing the market and Souo has introduced a heavyweight to surpass the Gold Wing.
My view is perhaps less cheerful / optimistic than in previous years, but perhaps it reflects the gloomy social atmosphere that we probably have here (in Europe).
But otherwise everything was the same. Beer flowed freely, wursts were eaten in large quantities, bands played rock ‘n roll until the night and everyone (who had drunk enough beer) had fun.
It only seemed to me that the nightly revving of engines without exhausts and the loud screams that accompanied it had subsided. But the truth is that after previous experiences I used good quality earplugs. Only female laughter and the sound of a two-stroke engine penetrated through them.
