Stylish Steed: Moto Adonis builds a Honda DOHC 750…
In the 1990s, Honda introduced the CB Seventy Fifty (CB750F2), an air-cooled retro roadster that carried forward many of the old-school traits of the original CB750: steel-tube cradle frame, twin rear shocks, and conventional forks. The engine was based on that of the CBX750, featuring a 16-valve DOHC design that offered 73 bhp through a five-speed transmission.
While the Seven Fifty was certainly no two-wheeled revolution like the original SOHC CB750, it had solid bones, bulletproof reliability, and lends itself to customization much more than the aluminum-framed, liquid-cooled superbikes of its day. The boys at Moto Adonis agree:
“In our eyes, the Honda CB Seven Fifty is a great bike for starting a café racer build. Nice looking frame and tank, and also a reliable engine with enough power for a great ride!”
In this case, it helped that the client’s father already had a custom Seven Fifty, and he wanted one of his own:
“So the son decided to secretly buy his own Seven Fifty and let us at Moto Adonis build a café racer out of it to make his own. The goal was to surprise his dad and have them finally ride together on their own custom bikes.”
What’s more, the customer expressed a desire to participate in the building process, and since he had some expertise, the Moto Adonis crew welcomed him into the fold:
“The customer is a painter by trade, so this was not an issue for us and was an opportunity for the customer to show off his own skills.”
Arthur from Moto Adonis details the modifications below. Highlights include a subframe and Miller Kustom saddle that follow the lines of the tank, complete stainless exhaust shod in black Cerakote, custom fenders / side covers / electrical box, full Motogadget rewire with LED lighting, and more.
We can’t think of a better way for a father and son to spend their time together, cruising on a pair of custom Seven Fifties.
Custom CB750F: In the Builder’s Words…
At the outset of this build, the goal was to imbue the bike with the distinctive Moto Adonis touch: a stylish and clean-looking bike, built with attention to detail.
We began this build by constructing a complete new subframe that follows the lines of the stock gas tank. Next on the list was the seat, which needed to offer both comfort for long rides and an appealing design with integrated brake and taillights.
The exhaust system was then addressed, with the customer desiring a throaty sound without disturbing the neighbors too much. We crafted a complete stainless steel exhaust and had it Cerakoted black.
Other tasks included fabricating fenders, making a custom electrical and battery box under the seat, making handmade aluminum side covers, and enhancing the overall appearance of the bike.
This bike also boasts a full Motogadget system, including mirrors, Mo.Blaze bar-end turn signals, and a Motoscope Pro speedometer. We like to build bikes with high-quality parts, so we have also chosen Renthal bars, Biltwell handgrips, and a Highsider headlight.
After the Build
We take great pride in this build! The bike looks great and delivers an awesome riding experience. And most importantly, we have once again brought a customer’s dream bike to life and made them happy.
