Kings of Cool: Triumph “Legend” Scramblers

Triumph Scramblers

McQueen-inspired Scramblers from FCR Original…

More than four decades after his untimely passing, Steve McQueen remains one of the most iconic, influential figures in the world of two wheels. The uninitiated may assume it’s simply because of his film role in The Great Escape or dozens of black-and-white photos of McQueen aback one of his Triumphs, oozing cool behind his aviator sunglasses.

However, McQueen took his motorcycle racing very seriously, and he was good at it, too. He earned the respect of top semi-pro and professional off-road riders, even landing a place on the USA’s 1964 ISDT team:

“He wasn’t just a guy who got rich in the movie biz and took up motorcycle racing as a minor hobby—he was good at it. McQueen was a tough competitor in off-road events from the Baja 1000 and Elsinore Grand Prix, and was also a member of the U.S. Team for the 1964 International Six Days Trial (ISDT)…” –Ulimate Motorcycling

McQueen’s Triumph and Rickman Métisse desert sleds continue to influence modern motorcycle design. Several years ago, our friends at FCR Original created the “Green Legend” — a 2016 Triumph Bonneville that took its inspiration and design cues directly from the McQueen myth:

“The objective of this creation? To honour the scramblers of the 70’s. Mythical enduro bikes, made famous by Steve McQueen, today a synonym of freedom.”

Triumph Scramblers

The Green Legend debuted at The Bike Shed London to great acclaim, and quickly became one of FCR Original’s most popular creations to date. Today, we’re thrilled to feature a pair of new Legends, a Triumph Speed Twin 900 and T120 Bonneville created in the bloodline of the original Green Legend.

Triumph Scramblers

With these creations, FCR Original aimed to communicate the character and charisma of the original 70s scramblers through Triumph’s modern “neoclassic” platforms, melding contemporary reliability with classic aesthetics and charm.

Highlights include nickel-plated frames, custom rear hoops with bespoke saddles, chrome 17/18″ spoke wheels with dual-sport rubber, top-spec Shock Factory rear suspension, and an arsenal of FCR Original custom pieces.

Triumph Legend Scramblers: In the Builder’s Words…

Triumph Scramblers

An emblematic range from our workshop, anchored in the DNA of FCR Original, and brought up to date. Bikes created exclusively on the basis of Triumph Speed Twin 900 and Bonneville T120 paying tribute to the Scramblers of the 70s. Mythical enduro machines, made famous by Steve McQueen, today synonymous with freedom.

Triumph Scramblers

The origin of this success story is a motorbike created six years ago: the Green Legend. A bike for which our workshop wanted to take inspiration from the mythical Rickman Métisse. To create a modern and reliable bike with the look and charm of the enduro bikes of the past. A creation revealed at the Bike Shed, which immediately found fans, as it embodies the spirit of freedom of the 70’s that floats on the motorbike today.

Triumph Scramblers

The Scrambler spirit of these Legend bikes comes through in many elements and details. Details such as the frame and swingarm, which have been stripped with vegetable abrasives and nickel-plated to give an authentic look. US handlebars and cross-country footpegs, all for an off-road, adventurous look; hand-stamped plates from our workshop as well as the turn signals and mudguards.

Triumph Scramblers

Every element, every part, every trim has been thought through. This is the case for the rear indicators and even the frame end caps, which are always stamped with the FCR Original stamp. Comfort has also been taken care of. Equipped with a unique, custom-made black leather upholstery.
