The original BMW R nineT has been one of the most successful retro models of the modern era, blending the classic styling of the brand’s historic models with modern power and tech. It also made a great canvas for custom projects — in fact, BMW Motorrad engineers designed the bike with customization in mind.
In 2024, BMW unveiled the R12 nineT — the first serious update of the model in the decade since its introduction. The air/oil-cooled 1170cc boxer engine remains the same, but the R12 features a lighter one-piece main frame with detachable subframe, sharper geometry, updated suspension / exhaust / airbox / electronics, and more.
One thing we’ve always loved about the nineT is the motor — it’s a beast of an engine for a retro, boasting 109 hp and 85 pound-feet of torque.

The team at France’s FCR Original are masters of the nineT platform, and they’ve turned their expertise in the last couple years to the R12. Today we have their “Classic Heritage” build:

FCR says the goal was to create a motorcycle with an authentic vintage-inspired aesthetic while maintaining a modern, refined, and fully ridable machine.

Design & Visual Identity
The design of this BMW R12 NineT “Classic Heritage” is inspired by the timeless elegance of BMW’s classic motorcycles. The contrast between deep satin black surfaces and satin gold accents creates a distinctive visual identity reminiscent of the brand’s historic models.
The Continental TKC80 tyres introduce a subtle scrambler influence, while the extensive use of black finishes enhances the premium appearance and highlights the graphic treatment of the fuel tank. Every component was carefully selected to achieve the perfect balance between heritage styling, modern performance, and everyday usability.
