Triumph Scrambler 400 XC “Escape”

Triumph Scrambler 400XC Custom

The Triumph Scrambler 400 XC is the company’s new, more dirt-focused 398cc scrambler. The TR series short-stroke liquid-cooled single, which makes about 40 bhp and powers the Speed and Scrambler 400, has received strongly positive reviews for its character, power, and sound.

From 3000rpm upwards it’s punchy in its deliver of power, with a broad spread of torque that allows the 400 to happily pull in the higher gears too. Up to 70mph its plenty fast enough and eager in its delivery with a sweet soundtrack to match, which means that for fast, flowing rides the Speed’s chassis has been crafted for, that single cylinder motor works wonders.” –MCN

The new 400 XC adds a number of upgrades over the standard 400 X: spoke wheels (19/17 inch), aluminum skidplate, crashbars, high front fender, flyscreen, tank knee pads, and more. The bike has about six inches of travel at each end, along with “defeatable” traction control and ABS for off-roading. It’s no dual-sport, but makes a great little light adventure mount.

Recently, our friends at France’s FCR Original turned their focus on the new model. The result is the Triumph “Escape,” which showcases the new parts they’ve designed to make the 400 more adventure-ready.

“Inspired by rally-raid machines and modern off-road builds, this project embodies a functional and graphic vision of the adventure motorcycle. The approach is no longer just about enhancing an existing base, but about redefining its purpose: to explore, to ride, to escape. The Triumph Escape stands out through a strong visual identity, combining deep matte black finishes with contrasting accents, alongside a coherent integration of technical components developed for real-world use.” -FCR Original

The contrast between deep black finishes, technical elements, and color highlights creates a modern, aggressive, and purposeful aesthetic.

FCR Original has developed a new range of accessories dedicated not just to the XC, but to the entire Triumph 400 platform (2024+): Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X / XC, Speed T4, Thruxton 400, and Tracker 400.

“More than a collection of parts, this is a complete product language designed to support the evolution of these motorcycles towards more assertive uses: urban, road or off-road. The FCR Original approach is based on a precise balance between function, durability, and visual identity. Each accessory is engineered to integrate seamlessly with the original architecture, without compromising it, while enhancing the overall character of the bike.”

We’re always impressed with the quality of FCR Original’s work, and we’d love to “Escape” the mundane for a few days on this rough-and-tough little Scrambler.

  1. While I can dig the topography theme, the bike is kinda ugly.
