FCR Original Reimagines BMW’s Retro Boxer…
Last year, BMW Motorrad introduced the R12 nineT, the next evolution of their popular R nineT neo-classic roadster. The engine remains the same eight-valve 1170cc 109-bhp boxer twin, but the R12 boasts a lighter trellis frame and bolt-on subframe, beefier forks, diagonally-mounted rear shock, new electronics, and geometry that’s been slightly tweaked toward greater stability.
Cycle World has found the retro roadster a near perfect blend of modernity and nostalgia:
“The R 12 nineT is a celebration of BMW’s heritage, and its not-fully-polished character makes the experience. You get all the feels of old in a modern machine that has comfortable ergos, remains compact, offers plenty of options for customization, and just lets you feel analog in a digital world.” –Cycle World
Of course, the outgoing model remains one of the most highly customized contemporary models on the planet — a bike BMW literally designed for ease of customization. So it didn’t take long for top-tier builders like France’s FCR Original to get their hands on the new machine.
This is their first build with the new R12, and they’ve focused on streamlining, lightening, and slightly redesigning the production version. Highlights include a custom rear loop and seat, forged aluminum wheels, tuned suspension, exposed K&N air filters, titanium exhaust, custom metallic paint, and a host of in-house accessories: headlight grill, license plate holder, etc.
They’re also planning off-road, classic heritage, and urban versions, and this bike is something of a demo to show what they can do. They’re quick to say that everything is customizable according to the client. If you’re in the market for a custom R12 NineT, this French workshop remains one of the very best in the business.
Above, you can hear the growl of this R12 nineT with its titanium exhaust. Below, FCR Original gives us the full rundown of the build in their own words.
In the Builder’s Words
At FCR Original, we’re proud to present our very first custom build based on the new
BMW R12 NineT. Designed from the outset with our clients in mind, this bike marks the beginning of a new chapter in our approach to design, performance, and premium customization.
With this model, we introduce a new creative platform: one that can adapt to a wide range of desires while staying true to a strong philosophy: a clean, powerful, and expressive machine that remains faithful to FCR Original’s DNA.
A NEW BASE, A NEW VISION
The R12 NineT is the direct heir of the legendary R NineT. From the moment it was released, we saw massive potential in it. Its modernized structure, aggressive design, and character-rich engine make it an excellent foundation for expressing our vision of the contemporary motorcycle: authentic, muscular, and minimalist.
From the very first sketches, our goal was clear: to free the R12 from its constraints. To lighten it, let it breathe, and reveal its true nature. We didn’t just want to modify it. We wanted to interpret it with purpose and precision, honoring its lineage while imprinting it with our signature as passionate builders.
A COMPLETE CUSTOM BUILD, DESIGNED TO THE LAST DETAIL
This R12 NineT has been entirely reimagined: from its lines and stance to its components and finishing touches.
Structural work:
• Custom rear loop: A unique piece that visually opens up the rear section and allows for the removal of the airbox, replaced with high-performance K&N filters
• Electronics hidden under the seat for a super clean finish
• Handlebar modified for a lower, more dynamic, and sporty position
Premium finishes & exclusive design:
• Custom paintwork with deep metallic tones, hand-applied
• Showcasing our in-house accessories: radiator guard, license plate holder, gas cap, headlight grill, and more
• Custom seat designed for comfort and support, featuring a stitched French flag to honor local craftsmanship
High-end components:
• Forged aluminum wheels
• Titanium exhaust system
• High-performance Michelin tires
• Suspension tuned for improved ride feel
This bike is more than a custom build. It’s a statement of our vision for high-end personalization, blending performance, aesthetics, and technical excellence.
This model is a true showcase of the FCR Original style: raw, refined, and performance-
oriented. But most importantly, it’s fully customizable. Every part can be adapted, modified, and fine-tuned to our clients’ preferences. We developed this R12 as a demonstrator: it shows what the bike can become, but it’s just the starting point.
We chose to present this R12 in a more urban, youthful, and street-inspired setting: a
skatepark. Why? Because this bike embodies a new kind of modern power: bold, agile, and fearless perfectly at home in the city. It’s also our way of pushing boundaries and exploring new directions, while staying true to our DNA and helping move the neo-retro motorcycle scene forward.
WHAT’S NEXT?
This R12 NineT is just the first in a new series of FCR Original builds. We’re already working on several upcoming versions in our workshop:
• An off-road version, made for adventure
• A Classic Heritage version, paying tribute to BMW’s iconic lines
• An Urban version, compact, light, and punchy
And of course, we’re ready to welcome personalized projects from our clients. Every build we create is the result of collaboration — a shared vision and a challenge taken on together. This model shows what we’re capable of but more importantly, it opens the door to what’s possible. It reflects over 12 years of experience (FCR Original was founded in 2012) and our
unchanged drive to push the limits of motorcycle creativity.

Yet another Beemer Boxer with a plank seat and no rear fender. Yawn.
Agreed!
I would imagine those K&N air-cleaners are always being “massaged” by the rider’s knees while in-flight!
Another ugly version of a excellent moto
Du phare jusqu’à la selle, aucun intérêt esthétique.
Sauf la peinture.
Décevant.
