FCR Original unleashes a new Bonneville Bobber…
When Triumph introduced the Bonneville Bobber in 2017, everyone wondered how well a production bike could replicate the style and substance of a hand-built custom bike. However, the T120-based Bobber met rave reviews from the motorcycling press, who applauded its riding characteristics, charisma, and performance as much as its retro aesthetics.
The heart of the bike is a “High Torque” version of Triumph’s 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin, which puts down 77 horsepower and 78 pound-feet of torque — about 10% more than the regular T120 Bonneville. Top speed is reportedly 115 mph, with a range of 138 miles at 57 mpg. The ride-by-wire throttle offers road and rain modes, which deliver the bike’s full power differently.
The hardtail look was achieved with a cage-style swingarm and underseat shock with linkage, and the “floating” seat is actually adjustable for “up and forward” and “down and back” positions. Overall, the Bobber does quite a good job at replicating the stripped-down, long and low look of the post-WWII bobbers that inspired it.
The biggest surprise, however, is how well this modern classic handles:
“During the bike’s launch, every stop led to the same discussion between me and our riding pals about how easy it was to forget we were on a bike that wasn’t supposed to handle this good. The Bobber loves to lean over and it loves to stay there, as long as you’re okay with the grating footpegs.” –Cycle World
Our friends at FCR Original are well-known for the modern classic Triumph customs. For this build, they drew inspiration from the worlds of streetwear and skatewear:
“The Bobber Yellow Edition is a mixture of genres: combining finesse and audacity, it is the result of a harmonious marriage between English and American influences, thus creating a real bridge between two distinct cultures. An urban motorcycle…in an invigorating and daring lemon yellow color.”
We especially love the small tail section, which does much for the lines and proportions of the whole bike, and the overhauled undercarriage: black-anodized USD forks, 17-inch wheels, Brembo brakes, Shock Factory rear suspension, and Michelin rubber. This Bobber can now storm the backroads as well as cruise the boulevards — a modern ground-pounder sure to turn heads with both its style and sound.
In the Builder’s Words…
Our design studio found inspiration for this 1200 Bobber by drawing on streetwear and skatewear designs. The Bobber Yellow Edition is a mixture of genres: combining finesse and audacity, it is the result of a harmonious marriage between English and American influences, thus creating a real bridge between two distinct cultures.
An urban motorcycle for which our workshop wanted to bring a high degree of finish and inspiration by dressing it in an invigorating and daring lemon yellow color. A striking aesthetic, captivating the eyes and arousing the curiosity of muscle bike enthusiasts.
Though elegant, this motorcycle is nonetheless a Bobber with a strong character. With 17-inch wheels and an inverted fork, its general line is more inclined towards the front, giving it a racy look.
Our workshop also wanted to lighten its appearance by giving it shorter mudguards, as well as our in-house exhaust system giving it a unique sound. The rear shell, custom-made from the same pattern as the tank, elegantly extends the nubuck seat.
