A scrambler motorcycle is a road-based bike adapted for light off-road riding, traditionally characterized by upright ergonomics, higher ground clearance, wide handlebars, minimal bodywork, and often a high-mounted exhaust to clear obstacles. Originating in the 1950s–1960s when riders modified street motorcycles to “scramble” over dirt roads, fire trails, and rough terrain, scramblers prioritize versatility and simplicity over specialization — bridging pavement and unpaved riding without the long-travel suspension or focused geometry of true dirt or enduro machines.
